In Lviv, the 80th anniversary of the liquidation of the Lviv Ghetto and the Yaniv Concentration Camp was commemorated. The city’s mayor, Andriy Sadovyi, representatives of Jewish organizations, the public, and clergy lit candles and laid flowers at the monument to the victims of the Lviv Ghetto, and together, they recited a memorial prayer.
“Today, amid wartime, we understand more deeply the tragedy experienced by the Jewish people. Today, the Ukrainian people stand at the forefront, defending the right of free nations to live, develop, and be worthy. So today, we are all together with the Jewish people. And it will always be so. And when you take this step towards freedom, towards liberty, G-d always helps you, despite all trials,” noted Andriy Sadovyi, the mayor of Lviv.
There was also a laying of flowers at the memorial stone at the site of the former Yaniv Concentration Camp. Later, a concert-prayer of the SHTRUDL-Band Jewish song ensemble began at the “Territory of Terror” Memorial Museum of Totalitarian Regimes
The event was organized by the “Teiva” Jewish Religious Community of Progressive Judaism, the “Chesed-Arye” All-Ukrainian Jewish Charitable Foundation and the “Territory of Terror” Memorial Museum.
