In a rare and joyous event, the Jewish community of Odesa recently gathered at the Beit Menachem synagogue and Chabad House in Fontana, headed by Rabbi Mendy Wolf, for the ceremonial completion and inauguration of two new Torah scrolls.
The Goldenstein family and additional donors, dedicated the Torah scrolls in memory of their loved ones, for the elevation of the souls of fallen soldiers, for peace, and in merit of the Jewish people of Odesa.
Chief Rabbi of Odesa, Avraham Wolf, expressed the deep spiritual significance of the event, stating: “When a new Torah scroll is brought into a synagogue, it is a rare and momentous occasion that fills the community with light and spiritual joy. The Torah is not just a book—it is Divine wisdom, a connection between generations, and a source of life for the Jewish people.”
The event followed the traditional “Hachnasat Sefer Torah” ceremony, beginning with the writing of the final letters in the scrolls, followed by dancing with the new Torah scrolls, embracing them with joy and reverence, alongside the synagogue’s existing Torah scrolls.
The celebrations concluded with a festive meal, where rabbis, community leaders, and family representatives shared words of blessing and inspiration.
Hundreds of members of the Jewish community from Odesa and the surrounding region participated in the historic celebration, which reinforced the strength, unity, and resilience of Jewish life in the city.
