The Mayor of Odesa, Gennadiy Trukhanov, along with Rabbi Abraham Wolf of Odesa and Southern Ukraine, lit the seventh candle of the Chanukah menorah and extended holiday greetings to the children of the “Mishpacha” orphanage.
Among the guests were Igor Shatkhin, the head of the Federation of Jewish Communities of Southern Ukraine, and other members of the Odesa Jewish community.
“Chanukah continues – the festival of lights symbolizing the triumph of good over evil. Every day, we pray for Ukraine and Israel, hoping for peace in our countries,” said Mr. Wolf.
The mayor treated the children to festive delicacies and, following Jewish tradition, presented them with two coins. One coin was kept by the child, while the other one was donated to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
