An inspiring event recently took place in the Jewish Community of Dnipro, Ukraine, with the completion of the restoration of an ancient Torah Scroll belonging to the Jewish community of Kremenchuk. Following extensive professional restoration work carried out at the National Sofer Center in Dnipro, the restored Torah Scroll was officially presented to a delegation from the Jewish community of Kremenchuk, headed by its leader, Chief Rabbi Shlomo Salamon.

The ceremony was held in the conference hall of the office of the Chief Rabbi of Dnipro and the region, Rabbi Shmuel Kaminezky, on the 18th floor of the world’s largest Jewish center, the Menorah Center. The event was attended by respected members of the Jewish Community of Dnipro together with a distinguished delegation from Kremenchuk. Following the ceremony, participants gathered for a festive meal held in a warm and joyful atmosphere.

The ancient Torah Scroll required serious professional restoration, a task entrusted to the highly respected National Sofer Center in Dnipro. The restoration became possible thanks to the support of esteemed member of the Jewish Community of Dnipro Yosef David Belyaev, who financed the entire restoration process and also donated a new mantle for the Torah Scroll. In addition, a new Torah crown was presented by Rabbi Levi Karelenstein.

“This Torah Scroll is especially meaningful for our community because it stood at the very beginning of the modern history of Jewish life in Kremenchuk,” said Chief Rabbi of Kremenchuk, Rabbi Shlomo Salamon. “Nearly twenty-eight years ago, just two weeks before I arrived in Kremenchuk, I was informed about this Torah Scroll in a truly remarkable way, and it was entrusted to me. I arrived in our community together with this Torah Scroll, and throughout all these years it accompanied the growth and life of our community. Its restoration therefore holds special spiritual and emotional significance for us.”
