Eighty years after Hungarian Jewry was nearly wiped out during the Holocaust, the Rebbe’s Shluchim, who are bringing about a tremendous spiritual renaissance across Hungary, gathered last night for a momentous and unprecedented event: the country’s first Kinus Hashluchim ever held in the country, followed by an achdus Farbrengen.

The event brought together all 27 Shluchim from throughout Hungary, together with their families. Most of the Shluchim are based in the capital city of Budapest, while others serve in key cities across the country, including Debrecen – Hungary’s second-largest city – Miskolc, and more.

The historic Kinus was held in the historic Obuda Synagogue on the western bank of the Danube in Budapest. The Kinus quickly transformed into a Chassidishe Farbrengen, truly “K’ish Echad B’Lev Echad” in the spirit of the Rebbe’s directive in the days leading up to Shavuos.

The Shluchim also celebrated the birthday of the synagogue’s Rav and Chief Rabbi of the Association of Jewish Communities under EMIH, the devoted Shliach, Rabbi Shlomo Köves.

Leading the Farbrengen was Hungary’s Head Shliach and the Av Beis Din of Budapest’s Orthodox Rabbinate, Rabbi Baruch Oberlander. He expressed deep gratitude to each Shliach for their unwavering devotion and tireless efforts in spreading Yiddishkeit. Veteran Shluchim shared emotional memories from their 36 years of pioneering shlichus in Hungary, recounting remarkable milestones in rebuilding a once-decimated Jewish presence.

A distinguished guest at this historic occasion was the Chief Rabbi of Holland (Netherlands), Rabbi Binyomin Jacobs – one of the elder Shluchim in Europe – who shared profound insights and lent his vast experience in supporting and advancing the shlichus in Hungary.

Throughout the Kinus and ensuing Farbrengen, the Shluchim engaged in focused discussions on current challenges, strategies for expanding their outreach, and a strong emphasis on enhancing educational programming as a cornerstone of their shlichus.

This groundbreaking event marked not just a reunion of Shluchim but a powerful demonstration of Jewish revival, unity, and the unstoppable momentum of the Rebbe’s vision unfolding in Hungary.
