In the shadow of growing anti-Semitism, a historic combined Siyum Sefer Torah and Bar Mitzvah was held in Valencia by longtime Shluchim Rabbi Shalom Ber and Devorah Binshtock for the first time in half millennia.

This historic event took place for the first time since Yidden was deported from Valencia on 17 Tammuz, 532 years prior. And was combined with the Bar Mitzvah celebration for the Shluchim’s son, Yosef, and was joined by a large crowd, including community members and the Shluchim’s family who arrived from Eretz Yisroel.

As the designated time approached, a large crowd began to pour into the Chabad House, which was upgraded to a magnificent banquet hall for the occasion. One by one guests were honored to write a ois, in the Sefer Torah, during Hagaba and Gelilah.

After reciting the verses of Ato Hareisa and Hakafos, the participants went out in stormy dances with the climax being when they all came out together with the books of the Torah and danced brilliantly in the street of a city.

One of the participants who was not a ‘fan’ When the Shluchim arrived in Valencia, put it well, asked to speak during the Seudah, and said that “dancing with the Sefer Torah outside gave them back their Jewish pride.”

After the Siyum Sefer Torah, the crowd sat down to a lavish Seudas Mitzvah prepared by the emissary and family members themselves.

The meal opened with the reading of the Rebbe’s Bar Mitzvah letter, which was read by the Shliach’s grandfather, Rabbi Shlomo Segal of Afula. Immediately afterward, Rabbi Chaim Binshtok of Kfar Chabad said the letter in Spanish. The event was moderated by the Shliach Rabbi Shalom Ber Binshtok.

At the end of the combined events, the audience left with a sense of elation and Yiddishe pride, ahead of the completion of the new Chabad Building with a new Mikvah.
