The Chabad House in the Rechavia neighborhood of Yerushalayim was targeted and vandalized on Shabbos for the fourth time this year, resulting in damage to the property.
Security camera footage captures the perpetrator arriving on Friday night and causing damage to the Chabad House in Rechavia while tearing Shabbos pamphlets at the entrance.
The Shliach, Rabbi Yisroel Goldberg, pointed out that this is not the first documented incident of someone damaging the Chabad center, and he has reported it to the authorities. However, the case was closed due to a “lack of interest.”
“The police have informed me that they are investigating, I am certain that if such incidents were happening elsewhere, there would be widespread outrage. How is it possible that it continues to occur without significant attention?” the Shliach continued.
Construction and Housing Minister Yitzhak Goldknopf on Sunday sent a letter to Jerusalem District Police Chief Dep. Com. Doron Turgiman requesting his involvement in the case: “It was brought to my attention that for the fourth time in a row, the Chabad house in Rechavia, Yerushalayim, was defaced over the weekend by an unknown vandal. Security footage shows a man defacing property and ripping torah pamphlets outside the Chabad House,” the Minister wrote.
He states that “Rabbi Goldberg, who works at the site, said he contacted the police the first time the place was defaced. After a period of bureaucracy, they notified him that the case was closed due to a lack of public interest. I see this severely. It is unthinkable that in the Jewish state, especially in the capital of Israel, a site of worship being defaced time after time would pass without reaction.
I request your personal involvement in the matter to ensure the police tend to the severe incident and bring the vandal to justice,” the Minister concludes.
