The lyrics are drawn from The Rebbe’s words spoken on Tu B’Shvat, 5739 (1979), during a farbrengen delivered with tears and a cracked voice, in which the Rebbe shared the famous parable of the Maggid of Mezritch about a son searching for his father who is hiding from him. The father’s hiding is only to test whether the son will persist in the search.
In this talk, the Rebbe pleads to cry out the cry of the son who is tired and exhausted from his search, feeling at times that his strength is failing, and begging to reunite with his father openly once more.
In this parable, we are reminded that, like the son, we too are weary of the darkness that prevails in the world. Yet, we know with absolute certainty that the Shepherd will never leave His flock, for eternity.
