A bochur from a litvishe family, studying in a litvishe yeshiva, was inspired to allow his beard to grow.

Shortly after Pesach, he began meeting a girl from a similar background for shidduchim purposes and before Shavuos they became engaged.

The first time they met after Shavuos, the kallah reacted in shock to her choson’s beard – she had assumed that it had been only a “sefirah beard” and would be removed after Shavuos.

Upon being informed that the beard was permanent, the kallah advised the choson that she would not consider marrying someone with a beard.

In efforts to save the shidduch, the parents consulted with two major litvishe Roshei Yeshiva, but both refused to tell the choson that he should remove his beard to save the shidduch.

At this point, a Rov involved in the case recommended that the kallah be shown what the Chofetz Chaim zt’l wrote about this issue in his sefer “Tiferes Odom” (and also what Rav Chaim Kanievsky shlita wrote in his sefer “Orchos Yosher”).

After these quotations were read and translated for the Kallah, she reversed her position and agreed to her choson keeping his beard. B’H, the shidduch was saved and the chasuna was held just before the Three Weeks began.
