Drama in Kfar Chabad: Two Arrested on Suspicion of Espionage for Iran
In a dramatic turn of events in the heart of Kfar Chabad, a man and a woman were arrested today (Sunday) on suspicion of spying for Iran, after being caught photographing sensitive sites in and around the village • Full Story
The pair aroused suspicion among residents when the woman was seen sitting near a weekly women’s Chassidus class held in the local park, behaving in an unusually suspicious manner. When approached by concerned residents and security personnel, she was unable to provide a convincing explanation for her presence.
Upon detaining her, authorities discovered that she had entered Israel just days earlier on a tourist visa.
Meanwhile, the male suspect was apprehended behind the main shul in Kfar Chabad, where he was reportedly photographing various angles of the building and surrounding areas.
When searched, both suspects were found to be in possession of advanced photographic and recording equipment, and shockingly, hundreds of thousands of shekels in cash, raising serious concerns about their intentions and funding sources.
The quick thinking and vigilance of Kfar Chabad residents proved critical, as they immediately alerted police and helped detain the suspects until law enforcement arrived.
In a statement, the Israel Police said:
“Following a report of suspicious individuals on a motorcycle documenting sensitive areas in the Shfela region, Border Police and local officers launched a search. The two were located near Kfar Chabad and apprehended after attempting to flee and hide recording devices. They are currently under interrogation at the Rishon LeZion station. Based on the findings, the case may be transferred to the appropriate national security agency.”
The investigation is ongoing. Security officials suspect the two were acting on behalf of hostile foreign intelligence—most likely Iran, given the nature and targets of their activities.
