A week ago a mother called the office of the ‘Chicago Mitzvah Campaign’ requesting to check her son’s Tefillin. When we returned the mothers call she explained her situation. Her son has yene machla and is in the hospital.
He woke up one morning and demanded his Tefillin be checked. He explained that he had three dreams that night, at the end of each dream a man demanded him to check his Tefillin. We explained her that the sofer was coming on the 23rd of January, and we can only check it then. In the meantime we sent her a kosher pair of Tefillin for her son to use.
The sofer opened the Tefillin yesterday and amazingly found that it was not kosher, many letters were touching each other, and besides the general quality of the Tefillin was very poor. The sofer who wrote it was far from an expert.
The story is not over…
The same day that she brought her son’s Tefillin to check, another mother brought her son’s Teffillin to be checked. This mother explained that her son decided to follow sefardic customs and no longer wanted a beis yosef ksav Tefillin. He bought a brand new sefardi pair and wants his old one checked so that he can sell it for $250. He bought it for $1200 but wants to sell it to someone who needs a nice pair but can’t afford.
Sure enough his beis yosef ksav Tefillin went to someone who couldn’t afford a pair of Tefillin: the boy in the hospital who’s mother has enough medical expenses to deal with.
How Hashem arranged this mother to bring her son’s beis yosef ksav pair the very same day that the other boys mother brought he posul pair. Just amazing!
The boy is still in need of a recovery, please say tehillim for Yisroel Yehuda Ben Dinah Sarah.
