Despite the snow and bitter cold, members of the Jewish community gathered for an evening of learning and inspiration together with the community’s shliach and Chief Rabbi, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Zalmnov, who spoke about the extraordinary personality and legacy of the Alter Rebbe, the founder of Chabad.
Participants raised a l’chaim, heard vivid stories about the Alter Rebbe’s remarkable life, and studied selections from the holy Tanya, presented by Rabbi Zalmnov. The program also included viewing historical material connected with the Alter Rebbe.
Among the highlights was the presentation of title pages from the Alter Rebbe’s sefarim, including Tanya, Torah Or, Likkutei Torah, collections of maamarim, and more.
In Russian, participants were introduced to the fascinating book “Alter Rebbe” by the renowned educator and shliach Rabbi Zalman Tovya HaCohen Abelsky, Chief Rabbi of Moldova and Chisinau, which explores the life and teachings of the Alter Rebbe.
Excerpts from the book were read aloud in Russian, drawing the audience deeply into the world of Chabad Chassidism. The book presents the divine life story of the founder of Chabad, the Alter Rebbe, in a clear, engaging style, offering readers an accessible and orderly introduction to the history and philosophy of Chassidus.
The audience expressed great admiration for the book, noting its lively and captivating style, which provides a direct encounter with the Alter Rebbe’s personality, his life story, and the core principles of his chassidic worldview—how a Jew is meant to look at and relate to the world.
The farbrengen concluded with chassidic niggunim and a special session on the melodies of the Alter Rebbe, including the niggunim “Keili Atah” and “Kol Dodi Dofek.” Participants joined together in singing and reciting verses, creating a warm and uplifting atmosphere.
