Coronavirus has closed a Melbourne school because of a staff member testing positive for the illness.

Yeshiva-Beth Rivkah College at St Kilda East confirmed on Wednesday a positive test came back for a staff member who returned on flight QF94 from the US on Friday morning.

“As a result, we have closed the school for 24 hours to assess the situation,” the colleges said in a statement.

The closure applies to the boys’ and girls’ campuses, including the early learning centre and creche, and the Yeshivah Centre.

The college is working with the health and education departments to map the potential spread of the virus within the school.

“We will then make contact with families and identify anyone who could have been impacted from within the school, and where possible, the greater community,” the school says.

“We have been in contact with relevant authorities to alert them of the interruption to our program.”
