Rabbi Chaim Mishulovin, the Chabad Shliach in Portland, commented, “We still have much work to do to bring light and goodness to the world. The motive remains unclear, but it is likely due to ignorance about Judaism and our activities.”
The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) has reported a sharp rise in antisemitic incidents in Oregon, with 75 documented cases in the past year alone. Nationwide, nearly 9,000 antisemitic incidents were recorded in 2023, a new high.
This isn’t the first time the Jewish center has been targeted. In 2020, the center was forced to relocate after two fires caused significant damage to the previous building.
Despite the setback, Rabbi Mishulovin remains optimistic: “We invite everyone to visit the center for inspiration and support. We are here for the community.”
The Jewish community in Portland hopes this incident will actually strengthen their unity and raise awareness about the importance of combating antisemitism.
