British Airways Faces Widespread Delays Due to System Outage

Passengers at London Heathrow’s Terminal 5, as well as other airports, are reporting significant disruptions due to a failure in British Airways’ communications systems. The airline’s website, ba.com, and its mobile app are also currently down, with users encountering a message stating, “We are experiencing high demand on ba.com at the moment.” • Full Story

The problems began around 5:00 PM GMT, with several outbound British Airways flights from Heathrow facing delays of up to two hours. Affected routes include flights to Geneva, Larnaca, Vienna, Vancouver, and Dusseldorf, with the 6:00 PM flight to New York JFK expected to depart 90 minutes late.

Due to strict operating hours at Heathrow, any delays can quickly snowball into further disruptions, and the airport’s complex air traffic control system requires a consistent flow of arrivals and departures to avoid significant backlogs.

A British Airways spokesperson confirmed that the airline is experiencing delays as a result of a technical issue affecting some of its systems. “Our flights are currently operating, but delays are being experienced as our teams work to resolve the situation.”
