Biden Meets With Family And Close Friends Amid Pressures To Step Down After Debate

President Biden reportedly hunkered down with family at Camp David today to discuss the future of his re-election campaign following his disastrous debate performance • Full Story

Joe Biden was meeting with his family on Sunday, a discussion believed to include talk about his political future even though it was already scheduled to take place before his calamitous presidential debate on Thursday with Donald Trump.

The meeting at Camp David came as pressures mounted on Biden following the vast fallout of the debate, in which his halting performance highlighted his vulnerabilities in a close election and invited calls from pundits, media and voters for him to step aside.

After Biden’s alarming debate performance, 72% of American voters believe he lacks the mental and cognitive health to serve as president, according to a new poll.

This is up from 65% of voters in a June 9 poll. The same poll found 35% believed Biden was mentally fit, compared to 27% in the recent poll.

72% of voters say Biden should not be running for president, up 9 points since February. Only 28% now say he should run, a drop of 9 points.

A slight majority (54%) still support Biden running, a 10-point drop since February, while 46% say he should not. Overall, 55% of Democratic voters support his run, while 45% think he should step aside.

While 71% of Democratic voters believed Biden had the mental and cognitive health to serve as president early this month, post-debate that figure dropped to 59%.
