The Jewish community in Australia are the first in the world to welcome in the New Year. After two years of repeated strict closures, the community is putting the difficult year behind and looking to the future, celebrating a new year with new opportunities.
This year there will still be shofar blowing’s in the parks and open spaces to give an opportunity for more people to fulfil the mitzvah, even those not attending a Shul, and for those who are still cautious regarding Covid-19.
During the month of Elul, the community has come together to pack and distribute “Shana tovah packages” to children and families who are battling illness in Sydney hospitals.
Thousands of packages were packed by the community including children with special needs. The packages were gratefully received by children and families in hospitals across Sydney in the spirit of hope for a better and healthier year.
