Against the backdrop of the looming ceasefire between Israel and Iran, and in accordance with Home Front Command guidelines, Ben Gurion Airport is expected to soon return to full operation, after almost two weeks of shutdown due to the war.

The reopening and the resumption of flights to New York will allow thousands of Chabad Chassidim to travel to Beis Chayeinu to be with the Rebbe MH”M on Gimmel Tammuz. Additionally, this will allow thousands of stranded Israelis to finally return to Eretz Yisroel.

At this time, it has not yet been announced exactly when Ben Gurion Airport will reopen or how flights will resume. According to Channel 12, the number of takeoffs and landings will increase from 2 flights per hour to 9. In addition, according to the report, Ben Gurion Airport is aiming to reach 20 flight movements per hour.

Some foreign airlines are also planning to resume operations in Israel. FlyDubai, one of the most popular airlines, has already announced its intention to resume flights to Israel.

The Israel Airports Authority (IAA) held a situational assessment on the resumption of operations on Tuesday with senior defense officials and the Israel Civil Aviation Authority. “As part of the preparations, an ongoing situation assessment is taking place with all relevant parties, including the Civil Aviation Authority and the defense establishment, with the aim of enabling a gradual return to normalcy in the coming hours.”

They also stated that “the IAA is working in close coordination with all airlines and partner organizations for airport operations, with the aim of ensuring an orderly and safe process for the traveling public. It should be emphasized that at this stage, there is no change in the flight schedules at Ben Gurion Airport and Haifa Airport.”

There are still tens of thousands of Israelis stranded abroad, although according to data released by the Population and Immigration Authority on Tuesday morning, 95,441 Israelis have returned to Israel since the beginning of the war: 52,554 via land crossings, 8,386 via sea, and 34,501 by air.
