Across Ukraine: Backpacks, Supplies, and Stationery for Students

High-quality kits, including brand-new backpacks, essential school supplies, textbooks, high-quality stationery, and sometimes even footwear and clothing, were distributed by JRNU – Chabad and the Federation of Jewish Communities (FJC) operational arm in Ukraine – to thousands of Jewish students from underprivileged and at-risk families, in preparation for the new school year • Full Story, Photos

Sadly, throughout Ukraine, thousands of Jewish children, along with their families, suffer from poverty and neglect. Many grow up in single-parent households, others struggle to make a living, and many face various illnesses and challenges. Furthermore, the ongoing state of emergency in the country over the past few years has worsened their situation, adding unbearable stress and anxiety.

In honor of the new school year, JRNU, operating in Ukraine on behalf of Chabad and the Federation of Jewish Communities, initiated a comprehensive emergency relief effort for families in the most severe distress. These families receive year-round enhanced support through the LifeChanger UA project, which specializes in providing holistic, life-changing assistance to families with children in complex situations.

The aid packages, which brought great joy to the children and their parents, as well as a sense of Jewish identity and belonging, were tailored to each family’s individual situation and the number of children needing assistance. The packages included a wide variety of educational supplies, writing materials, backpacks, colors, notebooks, textbooks, and in some cases, even clothing, shoes, and other basic needs.

“Thousands of Jewish students received special purchase vouchers, customized for precise shopping at leading supply stores,” explained representatives of JRNU, “so that every child could choose the exact colors and styles they prefer, bringing joy to their hearts and enabling them to thrive and excel in the upcoming school year.”
