A Summer of Discovery Begins: JSummer Camps Open Across the FSU

Thousands of Jewish children have begun their summer adventure as the Federation of Jewish Communities (FJC) ‘Gan Israel’ JSummer camp network openes in more than 60 branches across the former Soviet Union, bringing joyful and meaningful Jewish experiences to communities in nine countries: Ukraine, Belarus, Russia, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Estonia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Moldova • Read More, Photos

The network, which includes both day camps and overnight camps, will operate throughout the summer months of June, July, and August in several sessions.

For many campers, JSummer is one of the most anticipated moments of the year — a place to make new friends, enjoy sports, swimming, trips, creative workshops, social games, and nutritious kosher meals, all within a warm and caring Jewish environment led by devoted, professional, and loving staff.

This year’s camp theme, “QuesTora: The Mystery of the 10 Scrolls,” invites campers to set out on an imaginative journey to a mysterious island in search of true treasures. Each day, participants discover one of the “10 Scrolls of Wisdom,” explore meaningful ideas from Pirkei Avot, answer thoughtful questions, and collect special artifacts that guide them closer to the final treasure cave.

Behind the adventure lies a deeper educational message. Through teamwork, creativity, discussion, and hands-on learning, campers are encouraged to discover values such as responsibility, friendship, wisdom, self-confidence, and personal growth. By the end of the journey, they learn that the greatest treasure is not hidden somewhere far away — it is found within themselves.

In addition to the special themed program, the camps continue the long-standing ‘Gan Israel’ tradition of combining positive summer experiences with informal Jewish education. Field trips, outdoor activities, visits to Jewish heritage and historical sites, and age-appropriate learning help children strengthen their connection to Jewish life, community, and identity in a natural and uplifting way.

As in previous years, the JSummer network reflects the FJC’s ongoing commitment to Jewish children and families across the FSU, offering not only a summer of fun, but a foundation of warmth, belonging, and Jewish pride that continues long after camp ends.
