After world number one Carlsen established an early 2-0 lead, Nepomniachtchi mounted a spectacular comeback to level the scores at 3.5-3.5. Following three drawn games in the sudden death tie-break, both players agreed to share the championship crown, a decision subsequently approved by FIDE President Arkady Dvorkovich.

Rabbi Menachem Zaklas, who along with his wife Rebbetzin Rivka Zaklas leads both the Or Avner School and the local Jewish community, expressed his joy at their former student’s achievement.
