The European Rabbinical Center, which works year-round to support Jewish communities across Europe, is currently preparing for the large-scale distribution of menorahs as part of this year’s Mega Chanukkah project. Close to 100,000 menorahs will be sent to Jewish communities across Europe, including many smaller and more remote communities. The intricate logistics of the project are being managed by the Belgium-based organization, under the leadership of Rabbi Yehuda Reichman.
Along with the menorahs, pamphlets in multiple languages—containing the blessings and an explanation of the holiday’s significance—will be distributed to Jewish households across the continent, ensuring that more families have the opportunity to fulfill the Mitzvah of lighting the Chanukkah menorah.
Rabbi Yossi Beinkacher, Deputy Director of the European Rabbinical Center and the coordinator of the project, shared that the demand for menorahs continues to increase every year, with more and more communities requesting participation in the distribution.
Rabbi Aryeh Goldberg also highlighted that this project is just one part of the broader network of initiatives run by the Center throughout the year to assist Jewish communities in Europe. These efforts include the distribution of Shmura Matzah, Mishloach Manot for Purim, and sets of the Four Species for Sukkot. “Especially this year, when antisemitism is on the rise, with even a little light, we will dispel the darkness, with God’s help,” he concluded, speaking with emotion.
