Listen: The Rebbe Rashab’s Niggun Hachana

In honor of Chof Cheshvan, the birthday of the Rebbe Rashab, we present a recording of the Bar Mitzvah Maamar Nigun also known as Rostover Nigun or Mamar Hachana Nigun from the Rebbe Rashab • Full Story, Listen

This tune was first introduced in Rostov, Russia, and often sung by the fifth Chabad Rebbe, Rabbi Sholom Dover, known as the Rebbe Rashab. It is one of the more serious Chabad melodies, characterized by its deep feeling and soul searching expression. This nigun is said to help the soul free itself from the confines of the body, preparing it to absorb the G-dliness in Torah. This melody was usually sung before the Rebbe Rashab began his Torah or Chassidic discourses, and is now sung in Chabad circles as an an introduction to the discourse given over by Bar Mitzvah boys known as the Bar Mitzvah Maamar.

The lyrics to this song are a short synopsis of the way I understand the crux of the Mammar. It was written in honor of our son Mendel’s Bar Mitzvah and is beautifully sung by him.

This is the original version that we wrote several years ago:
