From The Rebbe’s Pen: The Bracha “Shelo Asani Isha”

Chabadinfo in collaboration with Beis Moshiach Magazine presents: From the Rebbe’s Pen, a series featuring a weekly letter or ma’aneh (response) from the Rebbe MH”M  A woman asked the Rebbe if in light of the fact that the Alter Rebbe didn’t cite in his siddur the bracha of שעשני כרצונו in lieu of שלא עשני אשה, does that mean that women should recite שלא עשני אשה? • Full Article

A woman asked the Rebbe if in light of the fact that the Alter Rebbe didn’t cite in his siddur the bracha of שעשני כרצונו in lieu of שלא עשני אשה, does that mean that women should recite שלא עשני אשה? The Rebbe answered:

פשוט שאין אשה יכולה לברך שלא עשני אשה.

איך תברך – יש לברר אצל נשי חב”ד שיש אצלן הוראה בזה.

    Translation:

It is an obvious thing that a woman cannot recite שלא עשני אשה — that He has not made me a woman.”

As to how to what bracha to recite: This should be clarified with Chabad women who received a directive on the matter.

An answer to someone who asked why the bracha שעשני כרצונו is not brought in the Alter Rebbe’s siddur:

לא שמעתי בזה, ויל”פ [= ויש לפרש] באופנים הפכים בנוגע לפועל. ולע”ע [= ולעת עתה] אין לי הכרעה בזה.

    Translation:

I haven’t heard any explanations on the matter, and it could be explained in varying ways that would have opposite ramifications on how to actually act. For the time being, I have no decision on this matter.
