    An answer explaining an important principle about applying advice given by the Rebbe to other situations:

    פשוט שהוראה ליחיד בכל כיו”ב, ובפרט במכתב פרטי אליו – אינה הוראה לרבים כלל – כיון שע”פ רוב זהו תלוי בתנאי חיי היחיד, תכונות נפשו, האפשריות שישנן אצלו שכתבם במכתבו, ועוד ועוד.

    Translation:

    It’s obvious that a directive in such matters given to an individual, especially in a private letter addressed to him, is in no way a directive to the public. Because in the majority of cases this advice depends on the life circumstances of the individual, his character traits, the possibilities available to him that he wrote in his letter, and more and more.
