איינער האָט מיר געשריבן אין אַ בריוו אַז זינט דער הסתלקות, איז ער זייער צובראָכען און אַמאָל ווען ער איז אַליין וויינט ער.

וואָס האָט ער אָבער אויפגעטאָן מיט זיין וויינען? האָט דאָס דער רבי געמיינט און געבעטן ביי אים וויינען? קרוב לודאי אַז וויינענדיג טוט ער ניט אוף, סיידן דעם ענין פון מרז”ל כל המוריד דמעות על אדם כשר (ועל אחת כמה וכמה בנידון דידן) הקב”ה סופרן ומניחן בבית גנזיו³⁾. מען דארף טאָן און אויספירן דעם רבי’נס שליחות, און ווי דער רבי זאָגט אין דער שיחה “אויף וואָס וואָרט מען, מען איז דאָך מעכב די גאולה, עס איז שוין ערב שבת נאָך חצות”.

במילא איז דורך העדר העבודה איז ער ח”ו מעכב די גאולה, ער איז מעכב דעם אויבערשטן, ער איז מעכב דעם רבי’ן און דורך דעם וועלן אידן בלייבן נאָך אַ רגע אין גלות.

Translation:

A certain Chassid wrote to me in a letter that since the histalkus he is very brokenhearted, and sometimes, when he is alone, he breaks into tears.

[The question remains, however:] What did he accomplish by his weeping? Is this the Rebbe’s intention — did he ask him to cry?! It is almost certain that by crying he accomplishes nothing, besides fulfilling the teaching of Razal that “When one sheds tears over [the passing of] an upright man (and how much more so in our case), Hakadosh Baruch Hu counts them and stores them in His treasure-house.”

We ought to be doing and accomplishing the Rebbe’s shlichus. As the Rebbe says (in the sichah [of Shavuos]): “What are we waiting for? The Geulah is being held up! It’s already past noon on erev Shabbos!”

By his lack of avodah the above-mentioned individual is (chas v’Shalom) delaying the Geulah delaying the Holy One, blessed be He; delaying the Rebbe; – and because of this the Jewish people are being detained in galus one moment longer!
