Following the Rebbe’s instructions, hundreds of activists across Eretz Yisroel and around the world signed up hundreds of thousands of Jews, including men, women, and children, especially members of the security forces and IDF soldiers, for a letter in the Unity Torah scroll. The great awakening swept people from all corners of the spectrum, as activists reported an extraordinary response from everyone offered the opportunity to purchase a letter.
The Vaad worked diligently on counting and recording the numerous forms that arrived from all over the country, and with even greater enthusiasm in the days leading up to the Yom Tov of the 19th of Kislev. At the height of the central farbrengen in Krayot, the exciting news arrived: the registration of all 304,805 letters in the Torah scroll was completed!
This is an unprecedented achievement: within a mere 7 weeks from the start of the special campaign, a complete Torah scroll was filled, with thousands of letters already registered for the next Torah scroll – the 11th in number. Joy filled the air, and everyone hurried to say ‘L’chaim’ in honor of the campaign, the soldiers, and the entire people of Israel. “Thank God, we have witnessed how this campaign brought
about amazing Achdus Yisroel. People from all communities and backgrounds, religious and non-religious, young and old, came together and registered in masses. There is no better gift for the Rebbe than this, in honor of the 19th of Kislev,” said the chairman of Ois B’sefer Torah Haklali, Rabbi Moshe Shmuel Oirechman.
The campaign continues in full force in the coming days, especially during the Chanukah period – as the Rebbe encouraged in the Sicha on the 19th of Kislev, 5742, that during Mivtza Chanukah, more and more Jews should sign up for the Unity Torah scroll. This is the connection of the “Torah Or” with the “Ner Mitzvah” of Chanukah.
“As long as there is even one soldier without a letter – we continue with all our might!”
