police have reported that gunfire was directed towards the Shalem station, situated just outside the entrance to Jerusalem’s Old City near Herod’s Gate.
United Hatzalah reports two police officers were shot. One of them is in serious condition.
Following the gunfire directed at the officers, the assailant attempted to flee the scene. Jerusalem District police officers pursued the assailant and neutralized him with gunfire.
Large police forces, under the command of the Jerusalem District Commander, have been dispatched to the scene and are conducting searches in the area to rule out any potential accomplices.
The Jerusalem District Commander is currently assessing the situation with officers at the scene.
In response to the shooting, the gates leading to the Old City have been closed.
