During an operation in Gaza, the bodies of the hostages CPL Nik Beizer and SGT Ron Scherman were recovered by IDF soldiers and brought back to Israel.

After an identification process carried out by medical officials and military rabbis, on Friday IDF representatives informed the families of CPL Nik Beizer and SGT Ron Scherman, who were taken hostage by the Hamas terrorist organization on October 7th, that their bodies had been recovered and returned to Israel.

CPL Nik Beizer, 19, from Be’er Sheva, was taken hostage while serving as a driver in the Gaza CLA, and SGT Ron Scherman, 19, from Lehavim, was taken hostage during his service as an NCO in the Gaza CLA.

“The IDF sends the families its heartfelt condolences and will continue to support them,” the IDF said.

“Our national mission is to locate the missing and return all the hostages home. We are working together with security agencies, and with all intelligence and operational means in order to return all of the hostages

The Hostages and Missing Persons Families Forum headquarters responded, “We share in the profound grief of the Scherman family.”

“Sergeant Ron Scherman, 19, was kidnapped by Hamas terrorists from his bed at a military base and taken to the Gaza Strip. Ron’s role in the IDF included coordinating with Gaza businessmen to assist them in exporting goods, thereby supporting the Gaza economy.

“Ron suffered from severe asthma and was filmed by Hamas, alive, when he was kidnapped to Gaza.
On October 7th he wrote to his parents “I love you, that’s it – they’re here. it’s over.”

In a separate statement, the Forum wrote, “We share in the profound grief of the Beizer family.”

“Corporal Nik Beizer enlisted in the IDF less than half a year ago and served in the Gaza District Coordination and Liaison Office.

“Nik had a technical aptitude and dreamed of a military career. His family recounts that from age 14 he began helping out in the family business: “He’s the handyman, he’s good with his hands and his hobby is cooking. On Saturdays he would make elaborate chef meals for the whole family.”

“Nik loved animals and volunteering. His family tells that he always liked helping people – he volunteered at the Be’er Sheva Bowling Association, and through the game he helped children with disabilities.

    “May his memory be blessed.”
