Rabbi Shneur Cadaner of the Quad Cities in Iowa Drove 2.5 hours to do a Kevuras Yisrael with one shovel. How did this start?
Rabbi Yosef Eisenbach of Litchfield, CT relates:
“In 2018, I was in a local hospital, where I meet a Jew named Steve with his Catholic wife, I put on him tefillin, say Shema, he gives me his number. A week later icall him he is doing better.
“A couple of weeks later i call him again, he tells me ‘This is our last call, I don’t do anything Jewish. Not Chanukah not Pesach, I married a Catholic, i don’t do anything Jewish.’
“I continue to call him a couple of times a year, with his permission i add him to our list, in our newspaper we added a section about Jewish burial (because we have a large senior community).
“A few weeks later, I get a call from his wife who says, when my husband saw the article, he said ‘Please give me a Jewish service’.
“She called a nearby Funeral home, they prepare his body and put him on a plane to Iowa, Rabbi Cadaner Drove over two and a half hours (!) himself to bury him with a Kevuras Yisroel.
“This is amazing example of the spotlight on the job of a Shliach, to help Neshamos throughout the world with the Rebbe’s Kochos.”
