After a meeting of Va’ad Rabbonei Anash of Israel, and a letter by the representatives of the Kfar Chabad Shuls, a decision has been reached, that Rabbi Meir Ashkenazi, the firstborn son of the late Rabbi Mordechai Shmuel Ashkenazi OBM, will replace his father as the Chief Rabbi of Kfar Chabad.

Rabbi Meir Ashkenazi served for almost 20 years as a Magid Shiur in the world’s largest Chabad Yeshiva, the Yeshiva Gedola of Tzfas, headed by his uncle Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Wilschansky.

He is the son-in-law of Rabbi Dovid Meir Drukman, Chief Rabbi of the Krayot in Israel.

The official announcement will take place tomorrow, after the Levaya, which will depart Kfar Chabad around 10:00am, and arrive in Tverya at 3:00pm. Rabbi Ashkenazi OBM will be interred next to his father, the late Rabbi Moshe Ashkenazi OBM.

This decision is in line with similar instances, where a son or son-in-law was announced as replacement during the Levaya, for example Rabbi Moshe Landau in Bnei Brak (after the passing of his father Rabbi Yaakov Landau OBM), Rabbi Mordechai Bistritzky in Tzfas (after the passing of his father Rabbi Levi Bistritzky OBM). Rabbi Chaim Ashkenazi OBM in Tel Aviv (after the passing of his father Rabbi Moshe Ashkenazi OBM), Rabbi Yaakov Mendelsohn in Arad (after the passing of his father-in-law Rabbi Bentzion Lipsker OBM), and others.
