As thousands descend upon Crown Heights for the Kinus Hashluchim, safety on the neighborhood streets continues to be a concern for visitors and locals alike. These concerns were exacerbated again tonight, with a stabbing taking place on the corner of Montgomery Street and Albany Avenue, a very central area in the Jewish community.
The victim, an African American male, fled to a grocery store on the corner of Troy Avenue, where the police and EMS were immediately called. He is said to be in stable condition.
A large contingent of NYPD vehicles quickly arrived to the scene of the crime, and a Level 1 mobilization was issued in search of the perpetrator. A representative has informed ChabadInfo that he has yet to be apprehended as of this time. Several Lubavitch-owned houses in the immediate area remain closed off behind caution tape barriers as the police continue their search.
This being the third attack and second stabbing in just two days, it has stoked fears within the community that beyond isolated incidents, this may turn into a trend, endangering the community in a serious way going forward.
