The National Weather Service is warning of a potential storm heading to the NYC Metro area, on Sunday night. Snow accumulations, strong winds, and low visibility are possible. New Yorkers are advised to exercise caution when driving, walking, or biking, and allow for additional travel time as roads may be slippery.
A winter storm brings accumulating snow Sunday afternoon into Sunday night. Arctic air then settles over the area Sunday night into much of next week because of arctic air conditions.
New York City residents should expect 4-6 inches of snow and Long Island residents should expect 2-3 inches of snow. The highest amounts of snowfall will be in the New York City Metro area — with peak snowfall rates of 0.5-1 inch per hour at times — which will result in slippery travel and snow-covered roads Sunday afternoon into Sunday night.
“Frigid temperatures and snow is expected to impact most of the State starting tomorrow, and my Administration stands ready to respond and assist our local partners,” New York Governor Kathy Hochul said. “New Yorkers are no stranger to winter weather, but I encourage everyone to make sure you and your family are prepared for the snow and extreme cold, exercise caution if traveling and continue to monitor your local forecast.’”
