Friday, August 15th, 2014 12:55AM: Shmira received a hotline call from a concerned woman who witnessed a male black stealing chairs from her neighbor’s porch on crown street. Shmira dispatched units to follow the alleged thief while other units proceeded to locate the property owner.

It was discovered that the property belonged to a home for special needs adults and the counselors on duty were unable to recall what the chairs looked like. Unfortunately due to this Shmira could not legally stop him and followed him until he went into his home on St. Johns Place.

Two hours later an alert Shmira unit on routine night patrol spotted the same guy walking on Brooklyn Ave carrying a wooden bench. This time however, a Bochur witnessed the same person steal a bench from a porch across the street from his home on Carroll Street and discretely followed him from behind. He flagged down a Shmira car and relayed what he observed. The owner of the bench, a non Jewish resident of carroll street was contacted and shocked to see his property missing. The Shmira members now had enough evidence to stop the thief. After a short foot chase on eastern parkway the perpetrator was detained.

The police placed the thief under arrest and the property was returned to its rightful owner.
