Hundreds of OYYL families and friends joined interactive Chanukah Party in honor of 5th Chanukah Light with a warm and bright community of students, families, educators, and friends! Program included Public Menorah Lighting, Students performances, and menorah art exhibition. Program continued with fun and interactive activity booths where students and parents had a chance to spend creative quality time decorating doughnuts, dreidels, making their own leather chanukah gelt pouch, make beeswax Shamash from scratch, and even get ready for the winter by making their own lip balm from beeswax and olive oil!
“What a fantastic Chanukah party the staff of OYYL put on for their students and community!”- Says Dovid Babinett, OYYL parent. “There was so much happening that it was fun for the kids and the adults. It was great seeing all the class achdus projects from each grade, I could tell the teachers put in a lot of work collaborating with their class to make something very unique. I also enjoyed the interactive workshops where kids and parents were able to participate in making their own Chanukah themed keepsakes.”
“This was an amazing Chanukah event!”- says Rabbi Kanevsky, OYYL Elementary Teacher, “Starting with all the hard work the students put in to the play, helping set up, and learning all about Chanukah. Then all of the sudden our school changed from a few classrooms to a beautiful Chanukah Party!! Who can forget the 12 pesukim and all those raffle tickets. Students performing in the play, and how nice to see the kids really enjoy traveling back in history and putting themselves in the yiddens’ shoes, especially after they learnt so much about the macabi family. It was breathtaking to see the younger grades sing Chanukah songs and the Rebbe’s Kapitel with so much Chayus! Then we had an amazing carnival with the best booths, doughnuts, dreidels, candles, and even your very own money pouch! Looking back, and after all the hard work put in it was all worth it. seeing how the kids, parents, guests, and even the staff (after a whole day of work ) were so happy and grateful.”
Each child at the party received a $2 bill for a Chanukah gelt, and participated in Chanukah Rally winning beautiful Prizes.
“It was an amazing event uniting the entire OYYL Community together.”- Says Mila Schneiderman, OYYL Director. “We are very grateful for having such united team of educators and parents to help put this event together. B”H we are entering our 10th year of operation, and we feel very privileged to serve such an outstanding Crown Heights Community, and despite difficulties we are facing in our everyday life, it is very touching to get together and simply add LIGHT and JOY to celebrate the great miracles Hashem performed for us and continues performing!”
