Over thirty men from Crown Heights participated Thursday night in another exam given by the Lemaan Yilmedu semicha program.

Rabbi Gedalia Oberlander conducted the test on Hilchos Taaruvos. Rabbi Oberlander is the rov of the “Heichal Menachem” shul in Monsey The test took place in “Nosson’s Shul” where the classes take place every week. Following this, another test will be given at the beginning of the week in which Rabbi Oberlander will test the students who are not Crown Heights residents and learn via Zoom.

For over two hours, Rabbi Oberlander tested the talmidim of the Machon who displayed great knowledge. He was most impressed that dozens of men of varying ages, young and old, with diversified jobs and professions, were investing time and effort in learning Yoreh Deah in a systematic way. He encouraged them to continue putting efforts into their learning and noted the importance of receiving semicha and especially knowing practical halacha.

The head of the Machon, Rabbi Zushe Wilhelm, thanked Rabbi Oberlander for taking the time to come and test the talmidim and noted with satisfaction, “yogaata u’matzasa taamin,” in that their efforts were apparent in the test results.

Lemaan Yilmedu’s goal is to make the study of halacha accessible to everyone, everywhere, all ages, whether businessmen or those who work in other fields, yungerleit and even bochurim. The Machon currently operates worldwide with dozens of branches in Eretz Yisrael, the United States, France and Russia. The shiurim are currently being given in Hebrew, English, French, Spanish and Russian.

The hanhala of the Machon has informed us that registration has opened for the new semester which will begin, G-d willing, in Elul. Those who are interested are asked to hurry and register, as there are a limited number of slots.
