A Jewish man was severely beaten during an attempted robbery on Wednesday evening in Crown Heights.
The incident occurred near President St and Utica Ave at approximately 7:20 PM. After exiting the train station and starting to walk home, he was followed by two perpetrators wearing face coverings who confronted him and asked, “What type of phone do you have?” After the victim continued to walk and not engage them, they picked up a wooden cane and demanded that he surrender his phone to them.
Before the victim had a chance to comply or attempt to flee, they began to brutally beat him with the cane, striking him multiple times so viciously, that the cane snapped in half. They even chased the victim once he started running away.
Crown Heights Shmira was called and began to search for the perpetrators and nearby surveillance footage and notified the NYPD and Hatzalah.
The perpetrators were described as two black teens between the ages of 15 and 20. One of them was wearing an orange bandana, while the other had a black bandana. One of the perpetrators was riding a scooter as well.
Please be aware of your surroundings. In case of an emergency, call 911 and Shmira 24/7 at 718-221-0303.
