In an unprovoked attack, a Crown Heights resident was attacked Shabbos morning, on the way to the mikvah and a complaint form was filed with the police, who opened an investigation into the incident.
Menachem Zirkind, Crown Heights resident, was on his way to mikvah on Schenectady Ave (between Eastern Pkwy and Union Street), where a tall African American man approached him and smacked him across the face and continued on his way.
Zirkind, who was in shock from the attack, hurried away from the scene. Suddenly he heard a voice calling at him. He turned his head and discovered a sanitation worker gesturing towards him.
The sanitation worker saw the attack and asked him if he was okay. “I told him no, then he asked me to stay put while he called for help” Zirkind said.
A few minutes later, the Sanitation worker returned and said that he was looking for the police officers who had been standing there earlier but could not find them.
After Menachem Zirkind spoke to the police officers who were at 770 and told the police about the attack. He then filed a formal complaint and provided details about the incident.
The NYPD promised to investigate the incident, and find and ultimately arrest the attacker.
