According to reports, the attack occurred when a white male approached the victim from a basement on President Street and asked for assistance in carrying boxes. Once the victim’s hands were occupied, the suspect allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed him in the neck. The assailant fled the scene immediately after the attack.
Crown Heights Shmira, the local volunteer patrol group, responded to the scene extremely quickly, offering assistance and securing the area while awaiting first responders. Their swift action was credited with helping to ensure the victim received timely care.
Authorities have launched an active search for the suspect, who remains at large. Witnesses described the attack as swift and shocking, with one local resident saying, “It all happened so fast. One minute, they were just talking, and then the next, the man was lying on the ground.”
The victim’s condition was initially reported as serious but stable, and he is receiving treatment for his injuries. Police are continuing their investigation into the motive behind the attack, but no details have been released regarding whether it was a targeted or random act of violence.
