On Wednesday, the NYPD and NYC Sheriff’s Department closed down a Crown Heights “bodega,” known as the Albany Candy and Grocery smoke shop at the Northeastern corner at Albany and East New York Ave.
The closure order was issued for “public health” selling “unlicenced processing of cannabis” in the “proximity of school, house of worship or public school facility,” the store is near a public school. The police also wrote that the “cannabis products were not tested or labeled correctly.”
In the notice, the police also seized illegal THC, cannabis pre rolls and other products.
The police also issued a summons to the owners for operating a cannabis shop without a legal license. And issued a maximum fine of $25,000
The building right across the street contains another bodega, which Hatzalah is trying to evict, to build the new Hatzalah building.
Over the past weeks, the city created a task force, which includes officers from the NYPD, the NYC Sheriff’s Office, and the NYC Department of Consumer and Worker Protection. In week one of operation, they ordered 75 illegal smoke shops to shut down. The task force issued nearly $6 million in penalties, with almost 4,000 violations.
Apparently, the police task force reached Crown Heights which has a bunch of bodegas—many of which sell THC, cannabis and cigarettes to minors or without a license—on many corners in the Shchuna.
“For too long, illegal operators have posed a threat to our children, our public safety, and our quality of life, and they have undermined those justice-involved, legal businesses that are trying to succeed,” said Mayor Eric Adams about the task force last month.
Adams also celebrated the result of it. “With this coordinated and sustained multi-agency enforcement, we will help usher in a thriving, safe, and just legal cannabis market that our city deserves while protecting our city’s children, families, and vibrant business districts from being subjected to these brazen storefronts.”

finally they took action
Please, understand, main problem is not near school. Main problem is selling to children. That is way I am going nuts that Dave’s organic bagels is still open.
I live near there and it’s been the go to spot for many people I know. I haven’t heard of anyone buying cannabis products there but definitely cigarettes and vape products. Kids will always find a place to get what they want so it’s not like it’ll be a permanent stop but it’ll make a dent.
In general though, having the purchase age at 21 is illogical given the age of majority is18 as it pertains to constitutional rights, make up your mind. Alcohol and other forms of substances, if legal, should have their purchasing age lowered to 18 because adults should have the authority to make choices for themselves.
18 is either old enough for everything or too young for anything, not mixed and matched.
Charging an adult with minor in possession is peak irony.
next?

it’s the problem of the community itself. these kids have nothing to do with there problems so they start vape. which seems to me to be a family problem. and thats. were we should start before closing these wonderful shops
