    Elections were held on Sunday for the directors of the Crown Heights Jewish Community Council (CHJCC) and Vaad Hakohol for the first elections in 14 years.

    The election committee announced the winners after 3 hours of counting.

    The candidates who received over 50% of the vote are the candidates who ran on a slate, Meir New, Shmuel RosensteinDovid Halon, Berel Hildeshaim, Zalman Friedman, and Yitzie Kamman (who ran independently).

    The total number of votes cast in this election was 1811.

    The breakdown of the votes:

    Friedman 86%
    Goldstein 32%
    Halon 80%
    Hildesheim 93%
    Kamman 55%
    New 91%
    Rosenstein 86%
    Woolstone 41%

    The six with over 50 percent of the vote now comprise the new directors of the Vaad Hakohol and CHJCC will vote as to who the chairman will be.

    The CHJCC is responsible for improving the material lives of residents by bringing social services, advocacy and funding into the community. The Vaad Hakahol is responsible for supporting the religious lives of residents by ensuring an active and effective Beis Din with a reliable kashrus infrastructure and the like.
