Innovative Torah Curriculum Empowers Children with Skills, Values, and a Love for Learning
In our day and age with the boom of technology, and the myriad of distractions children face, it is more important than ever that children be given the grounding and skills to become independent learners. Developing an enjoyment for learning Torah and tasting success in their studies have a big impact on children growing up to lead productive lives in Yiddishkeit and Chassidishkeit as adults • Full Article
Using discoveries of scientific research and technological tools, curriculum can be created that not only combats negative distractions, but enhances children’s learning to levels that were not previously possible. Children with learning challenges can learn techniques to learn successfully, and gifted children can maximize their potential.
Curriculum with visuals and skills can be extremely powerful. However, this carries tremendous responsibility to ensure that the content actually enhances the learning with strict adherence to our Mesorah and Torah values. The Rebbeim were very careful that innovations in Chinuch not compromise on our Mesorah and be in line with Torah, as can be seen with their strong response towards those tampering with Komatz Aleph ‘Aw’ and the Ivrit B’Ivrit movement etc.
This is particularly important today when there are many secular study programs promoting skill based learning and visuals based on ideologies that at times conflict with Torah values. It is easy to borrow their ideas and incorporate them into Torah subjects without the harmful effects of their ideology being filtered and noticed until much later.
Torah For Children is at the forefront of combining the power of visual and skill based learning into text based learning to create textbooks for Limudei Kodesh/Jewish Studies. “Though the graphics and visuals are highly engaging and professional, a lot of care has been taken to promote Torah values and to enhance the Yiras Shomayim of children”, says Rabbi Yehuda Adelist, Director of Torah For Children.
Recently, Torah For Children received haskomas from Rabbonim and Mechanchim sensitive to all the above who understand the need and urgency for children to succeed in their Chinuch. Torah For Children has received endorsements from Rabbi Yosef Braun, Rabbi Yosef Halevi Heller, Rabbi Nochum Kaplan, Rabbi Yossi Garelik, Rabbi Chaim Levi Goldstein and Rabbi Tuvia Kasimov.
Rabbi Yosef Braun, member of the Badatz of Crown Heights, took note of how much attention was paid to detail, to empower children to learn Torah independently and successfully, aside from just the overall visual appeal. Rabbi Chaim Levi Goldstein, a veteran Mechanech well known for promoting Mesorah in Chinuch, was impressed how the graphics and visuals are engaging but promote Mesorah and carry powerful lessons of Yiras Shomayim. Rabbi Yosef Halevi Heller, the Rosh Hakollel and a member of the Badatz of Crown Heights, wrote words specifically encouraging Mosdos Chinuch to use these materials.
While only select books have been published so far, a lot of effort goes into ensuring that each book is rich in content, thoroughly covering every skill and that no important information gets left out, which is a work in progress. More titles are iyh being created with time.
