In a previous article, I quoted several pieces of advice that the Rebbe had written to people looking to strengthen their memory. I received many positive responses to the article and people sent me various sources — from the letters of our holy Rabbeim — that address this issue with additional guidance. Due to the importance of the matter, I would like to share those sources with you as well. Rabbi Gershon Avtzon writes in this week’s Chinuch and Moshiach column • Full Article
Whose job is enrollment for school’s the administration or the teachers? And is it right for teachers to be involved in this process? And what is the Rebbe’s view on this? Rabbi Gershon Avtzon answers in this week’s Chinuch and Moshiach column • Full Article
Question: I am a teacher in a Chabad boys school outside of New York City. I would consider myself a successful and competent teacher and I truly feel that the students have shown consistent growth under my care. I would like to improve my attitude and mindset in my shlichus. Are there any letters of the Rebbe that address this? I’m a serious student with an average natural intelligence. I work hard in my studies and try to retain the information that I learn. I find that I seem to forget things pretty quickly and I assume that I am not the only one that struggles in this area. I was wondering if the Rebbe ever wrote about practical solutions to this problem. Rabbi Gershon Avtzon answers in this week’s Chinuch and Moshiach column • Full Article
Question: I serve as a mashpia in a Mesivta and spend hours speaking to the young bochurim and helping them navigate their personal challenges and struggles. One of the key areas that I focus on is strengthening the bond and connection between the student and his parents (unless it is an abusive relationship ch”v). In addition to speaking with the student, I also find it useful to have discussions with the parents. I was wondering if there is guidance from the Rebbe on this topic. Question: I am a principal of a Chabad-affiliated day school in a city where there are many families of Sephardic background that follow the Sephardic customs and these students make up a large portion of our student body. I was wondering if we should make a goal of having these students adopt Minhagei Chabad — vis-a-vis the nusach of davening etc. — or not? I have been blessed, Baruch Hashem, with a successful business and I am looking to do a special Mitzvah. I have two options in mind: 1) To commission the writing of a new Sefer Torah, or 2) Support an existing Torah institution. I am asking you — from a Chinuch standpoint — where would my children receive the bigger message of the importance of investing in a mitzvah and tzedakah? Question: I’m a Lubavitcher Chassid who serves as principal in a non-Chabad community day-school in the Midwest. Most of our board members are traditional Jews with a liberal slant. There has been a recent push by the board to introduce into the school curriculum “comparative religion studies” where the students explore the origins of other religions (including Christian) in addition to, l’havdil, Judaism. I am strongly opposed to this idea and was wondering if the Rebbe gave guidance on this particular topic. Rabbi Gershon Avtzon answers in this week’s Chinuch and Moshiach column • Full Article
I am a teacher in a Chabad Mesivta and I noticed something that really bothered me: We all know that recently, in Eretz Yisroel and the USA, there were political elections. I saw that it consumed the time and passion of my students. I started wondering if that would be different if the talmidim — and Chassidim in general — were told by Rabbanim and Mashpiim told not to vote at all in the elections. What is the Rebbe’s approach to voting elections? Rabbi Gershon Avtzon answers in this week’s Chinuch and Moshiach column • Full Article
Question: I’m learning in a Chabad Kollel outside the USA. As this year is “Shnas Hakhel,” I volunteered to help with the monthly children’s rallies in our community. While I see the importance of these rallies, there is one thing that bothers me: the fact that the rallies take place in the men’s section of the community shul and that we bring girls (although seated separately) into the men’s section. Is this right according to our Chinuch hashkafa? • Full Story
