After a wildly successful launch last summer, the Staff Mivtza Torah is back—stronger and more impactful than ever.
The Mivtza Torah was launched last year to address a familiar yet formidable challenge – in which bochurim working as staff members in overnight camp find it difficult to maintain a kvius in their learning throughout the summer.
After discussions between Hanhalos of yeshivos and the head staff of various overnight camps, the inaugural program of the Staff Mivtza Torah was launched, aimed at providing bochurim with a structured framework of learning, allowing them to carry their momentum from yeshiva straight into the summer.
One veteran head staff member noted ahead of the program’s launch, “I’ve seen time and time again how the lack of a ruchnius’dike structure affects staff adversely, limiting their ability to be the best staff they can be for their campers, b’gashmius and b’ruchnius. Thanks to the Staff Mivtza Torah, I am confident that this void will be filled this coming summer.”
The initiative proved more successful than the organizers could’ve imagined. Over 200 bochurim from across 7 overnight camps participated in the mivtza, many of them completed the entire Maseches Makkos, along with a sicha and a maamar each week.
The feedback from bochurim, camp staff, and Hanhalos was overwhelmingly positive – and the effects were long-lasting.
Many bochurim expressed their appreciation for the Mivtza, crediting it with keeping them to a steady learning regimen throughout the summer. “One of the worries I had coming into the summer was that I wouldn’t be able to continue the kvius from Yeshiva,” explained Eliezer G. “Thanks to Mivtza Torah, I ended up having a kvius in learning almost every single day.”
“From the complimentary Artscroll Gemara to the periodic canteen prizes and clear tests, I felt consistently supported throughout the summer. The automatic prize at the end of the summer was the perfect culmination of a well-structured program that kept me motivated and engaged. Thank you!”
“We’ve heard from multiple Hanhalos who noticed a clear difference in the bochurim who returned to yeshiva after having learned through the summer,” says Rabbi Yossi Rubashkin, one of the program’s organizers. “It’s not just about filling a void during the summer – it’s giving them a head start into Elul and beyond.”
This year, the program is expanding with even more incentives. In addition to the end-of-summer $100 prize and grand raffles on a dollar from the Rebbe plus valuable seforim sets, this summer’s program will include weekly raffles to keep the motivation going throughout camp.
With daily learning goals tailored to fit into every staff member’s schedule, and a supportive network of bochurim around you learning the same sugya, the Staff Mivtza Torah makes it easy to stay on track spiritually while giving it your all in camp.
