Purim is a day of profound joy, celebration, and spiritual elevation. While many recognize Purim for its external expressions—festive meals, costumes, gifts to friends, and charity to the poor—its deeper significance is illuminated through the lens of Chassidus. The essence of Purim, particularly the concept of “Ad D’lo Yada” (reaching beyond rational understanding), is a fundamental theme explored in Chasidic teachings.

This Purim, Rabbi Yitzchok Minkowicz of Chabad Lubavitch of Southwest Florida has taken a powerful initiative: teaching six Mugah Maamorim (certified and edited discourses) of the Rebbe that delve into the inner dimensions of Purim. These teachings, now available on Chabadinfo, YouTube and Spotify, offer a unique opportunity to experience Purim not only through external mitzvos but also through deep intellectual and spiritual connections.

What Is “Ad D’lo Yada” and How Does Chassidus Explain It?

The Talmud states that on Purim, one must reach a state of “Ad D’lo Yada”—beyond knowing—where they cannot distinguish between “Blessed is Mordechai” and “Cursed is Haman.” On the surface, this directive seems to encourage losing oneself in a state of uninhibited joy. However, Chassidus explains that this is not merely about physical intoxication but about transcending the limitations of human intellect and tapping into a deeper connection with Hashem.

The Rebbe’s Maamorim explore this in a profound way:

    • True Purim joy stems from the essence of the soul, which is beyond rational calculation.

    • Haman and Mordechai represent two opposing forces—concealment and revelation of G-dliness—but on Purim, one can rise beyond these distinctions and see only the Divine plan unfolding.

    • The power of bitachon (absolute trust in Hashem), as demonstrated by Mordechai, leads to miraculous transformation—even in the darkest moments.

The Rebbe’s Unique Approach to Purim

The Lubavitcher Rebbe taught that Purim is not just a commemoration of past miracles but a living experience of redemption. The Rebbe encouraged increasing in simcha (joy) and spreading the light of Purim to the entire world, especially through the mitzvah of mivtzah Purim—helping every Jew fulfill the mitzvos of the holiday.

By studying the Mugah Maamorim in preparation for Purim, one gains a deeper understanding of the Rebbe’s vision:

    • How Purim is an extension of Yom Kippur, where the inner bond between a Jew and Hashem is revealed.

    • Why self-sacrifice (mesirus nefesh), as demonstrated by Mordechai and Esther, is the key to transforming darkness into light.

    • How true happiness comes from recognizing that everything is orchestrated by Divine Providence.

Your Opportunity to Learn & Experience Purim on a Higher Level

These six Maamorim, taught by Rabbi Minkowicz, are now available for you to learn and internalize. Whether you are new to Chassidus or a seasoned learner, these classes will elevate your Purim experience, helping you go beyond intellect and truly enter a state of “Ad D’lo Yada”—beyond limitations, beyond boundaries, into pure joy and connection with Hashem.

Take this opportunity to learn, grow, and experience Purim in the way the Rebbe envisioned—not just as a day of festivity, but as a profound spiritual elevation.

This passage from the Rebbe’s first Maamar on Purim offers a profound insight into the deeper meaning of “Ad D’lo Yada”, showing how it transforms not only our experience of Purim but also our entire approach to Torah learning.

    The Rebbe explains:

The key idea here is that going beyond intellect (לא ידע) enhances and transforms intellect itself (הידיעה שאח”כ הוא באופן אחר לגמרי). When a person reaches a level of divine transcendence—where their rational mind is no longer the guiding force—they later return to their intellectual pursuits with a completely new depth. Their understanding of Torah is now infused with an element that was previously beyond them.

This connects to a fundamental theme in Chassidus:

    • The human mind is limited, while Torah is infinite.

    • Through bitul (self-nullification), a person can unite with the Torah’s unlimited nature.

    • By reaching a state of “Ad D’lo Yada”, one’s post-Purim Torah study is elevated, because the finite intellect has been touched by the infinite.

This ties into the well-known Chassidic principle that “Yisrael, Torah, and Hashem are one” (ישראל, אורייתא וקוב”ה כולא חד)—meaning that the Jew, when immersed in Torah, becomes unified with Hashem Himself.

On Purim, we don’t just celebrate—we enter a state where the deepest truths of Torah become part of our essence. When we return to our regular learning and avodah, we do so on an entirely different plane, with a new, limitless connection to Hashem and His Torah.

This is the true power of Purim and “Ad D’lo Yada”—not just losing oneself in joy, but transcending personal limitations to experience Torah and Divine unity in a completely new way.

May this Purim bring true joy, redemption, and the ultimate Geulah with Moshiach now!
