Here’s what the Rebbe Melech HaMoshiach said on Shabbos Parshas Pinchas 5711 (July 1951) in relation to the second Israeli elections, which were pivotal for the future of Yiddishkeit in the new state (Free translation):
“Two Jews visited me this week and raised a proposal: Since the time of the elections in the Land of Israel is approaching, there should be an announcement to recite Tehillim so that the elections will go well (“es zol geyn gut”).
“Reciting Tehillim is certainly a good thing at all times, and especially in such a matter (the elections in the Land of Israel), but there is nothing to be afraid of (“nito vos tsu shrekn zich”) regarding the elections. One must know and remember the saying of our Sages (mentioned above) “The Holy One, Blessed be He, did charity with Israel by scattering them among the nations,” and therefore, when the work of being “scattered among the nations” is done properly, all matters will be as they should be, in a way that “The Holy One, Blessed be He, did charity with Israel.”
“One must know and remember that the “key” is with us, and likewise the keys to all matters – “the key of life, of rain, and of resurrection of the dead” – are here (as discussed at length above), and therefore, there is no reason to be impressed by all these matters, and it depends only on us.”
