In honor of Yud Tes Kislev, the Rebbe certified and edited five Mugah Ma’amorim, three of which are in a video Shiur taught by Shliach Rabbi Yitzchok Minkowicz of Chabad Lubavitch of Southwest Florida, available on Chabadinfo, YouTube and Spotify.
Yud-Tes Kislev (19th of Kislev) is a significant date in Chabad Chassidus, known as the “Rosh Hashanah of Chassidus”. It marks two key events:
1. The Liberation of the Alter Rebbe (Rabbi Schneur Zalman of Liadi): On the 19th of Kislev, 5559 (1798), the founder of Chabad Chassidus, the Alter Rebbe, was released from imprisonment in Czarist Russia. He was arrested due to false accusations that his teachings and activities were politically subversive. His release was seen as a divine affirmation of his mission to spread Chassidus.
2. The Completion of the Tanya: Yud-Tes Kislev is also associated with the completion of the foundational work of Chabad philosophy, the Tanya, the Alter Rebbe’s magnum opus. The Tanya presents the deep mystical teachings of the Torah in a systematic and accessible way, guiding Jews in their spiritual service.
Significance of Yud-Tes Kislev:
• It is celebrated as the “New Year for Chassidus,” a time to recommit to learning and spreading the teachings of Chassidus.
• It symbolizes the triumph of light over darkness, as the dissemination of Chassidus brings spiritual awareness and connection to G-d during the darkness of exile.
Customs and Celebrations:
• Farbrengens: Chassidim gather for farbrengens (Chassidic gatherings) where stories are shared, songs are sung, and inspiration is drawn to grow in Torah and Chassidus.
• Increased Study: There is a focus on studying Chassidus, particularly the Tanya and other works of the Alter Rebbe.
• Renewed Commitment: Chassidim reflect on their spiritual growth and resolve to strengthen their connection to G-d, Torah, and the teachings of Chassidus.
Yud-Tes Kislev is a time of joy, inspiration, and renewal, celebrated not just in Chabad communities but among Jews worldwide who are touched by the teachings of Chassidus.
