As we mark the deeply significant day of Gimmel Tammuz, we reflect not only on the enduring leadership of the Rebbe, but also on the miraculous events that unfolded on this day when the Previous Rebbe, Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Schneersohn, was miraculously released from Soviet prison on this day.
Though his complete freedom came only days later, on Yud-Beis/Yud-Gimmel Tammuz, the initial release on Gimmel Tammuz was the pivotal turning point, a spark of redemption that grew into open salvation. Today, we draw strength from that moment, and its spiritual resonance guides us still.
In honor of this day, we are pleased to share two rare treasures:
Two Ma’amarim personally edited (Mugah) by the Rebbe in connection with the Previous Rebbe’s release from prison, taught in clear and accessible English by Rabbi Yitzchok Minkowicz, Shliach of the Rebbe in Fort Myers, Florida.
These Ma’amarim were edited and released by the Rebbe in 5749 and 5750, two years in a row, emphasizing the spiritual depth and historical significance of Gimmel Tammuz as the beginning of redemption.

Just as Gimmel Tammuz sparked the Previous Rebbe’s redemption, may this day once again ignite the final and ultimate Geulah, the complete redemption through Moshiach.
May we soon witness the fulfillment of the Rebbe’s vision, when we will hear new Torah teachings from the Rebbe in Eretz Yisrael, and the world will be filled with divine knowledge as the waters cover the sea.
