Is it Our Minhag to make Shlissel Challah?

AskTheRav.com: Is it our Minhag to make Shlissel Challah? See Rabbi Yosef Yeshaya Braun‘s response Full Story

Question: Is it our Minhag to make Shlissel Challah?

Answer: There is no official Chabad minhag as such. But it’s perfectly ok to make the shlissel challah, and the minhag is based on holy sources.

Note: If there is a design on the challah, even if carved out from the dough itself it is proper to be stringent not to eat and break it on Shabbos. However if the entire challah is the shape of a design one may eat it.

Has the Rebbe ever mentioned or talk about this?
I remember something, but i may be wrong. If anyone knows, i would appreciate it.

If i may add. My grandmother used to tell me (say) in the old country they woupdnt make a key shape challah. Rather they would put a key inside the dough before putting it in the oven. I remember her telling me, it was a segulah for many good things.

As a side note, interesting no stores anywhere in Brooklyn or in NY-NJ sells key shaped challah. (Thinking allowed here)

      Gut Shabbos.
