With great sadness we regret to inform you of the passing of Reb Shmuel Menachem Mendel Schneerson, OB”M, an elder Chabad chossid in Jerusalem, passed away on Shabbos, 10 Tammuz. He was 91 years old.
Born in Yerushalayim to his parents Reb Yisroel Yosef and Shosha Reiza Yocheved, descendants of Rebbetzin Menucha Rochel, daughter of the Mitteler Rebbe. In 5718 he came to New York to spend time by the Rebbe, and on Purim the Rebbe called him up during the farbrengen to come up and say L’Chaim, saying “my relative is here from Yerushalayim, let him come and say L’Chaim.”
He married Feiga Rivka and served as a board member of Colel Chabad, the longest running Tzedakah organization in Eretz Yisroel, founded by the Alter Rebbe.
Over the years, Rabbi Schneerson worked on republishing many seforim, including Seder Haslichos V’hatfilos, Kesones Tashbeitz, Kovetz Shirei Hamaharam M’rutenberg, and Tiferes Sheb’tiferes.
Despite losing four children in his lifetime he was always seen with a smile. In recent years his health failed him, and he passed away on Shabbos.
He is survived by his children, Hinda Kenig – Kfar Chabad; Beila Aizenabach – Yerushalayim; Rochel Hus – Montreal, Canada; and Elka Reichman – Kfar Chabad.
He was predeceased by his son Reb Shlomo Schneersohn, and by his daughters, Mrs. Esther Porush, Mrs. Alte Perel Reichman, and Mrs. Chaya Sarah Ehrentrau.
The levaya took place on Motzoei Shabbos, with Kevurah in the Chabad chelkah on Har Hazeisim in Yerushalayim.
